In addition, at the heart of the building schools for the future investment strategy of more than £40 billion over the next 15 years are sports facilities to which the community generally will have access.

The Council provides the facilities to the local areas; they do this because it is medically proven that people need to keep themselves fit and healthy, to gain a lot of money from the income which users will pay, to give people something constructive to do.
Big companies like Aqua Terra Leisure provide sport centres all over the UK which consists of many sporting facilities.
What sporting facilities do they provide
The council has built multiple sport centres around the towns, put a football court and basketball hoops on every housing estate. This benefits the community tremendously and shows the council are trying to influence people to participate in sport to not only keep their hearts healthy but to give them something to do.

These are the roles they have to take on

Ø Deputy Coach – the deputy coach is also there to have his input and somewhat of a back-up for the Head Coach; for example if the head was away for whatever reasons the deputy would stand in.
Ø Assistance Coach – the assistance coach is an extra pair of hands, they help individuals on their weaknesses and also participates in the main roles of the session.
Ø First Aid Coach – the first aid coach will treat the players which have injuries and is there at all times.
Ø Defence Coach – the defence coach will work with the entire team to practise their defence strategies.

Ø Physiotherapist – the physiotherapist deals with any muscular problems the players are having, they are there to make them recover as quickly as possible.
In a world-record sponsorship deal with Nike, Spanish paper Marca reports that Cristiano Ronaldo would be earning €6 million a year until 2014.

Professional Sport
Professional sport is when you compete in sporting events at a high professional level, when in this league you are at the top and must be extremely gifted/skilled.
Scale/Size
Professional sport worldwide is incredibly big. They earn high amounts of money for example, Wayne Rooney earns £140,000 a week, this is because he is a top rated football player and plays at a professional level.
Can payment take on other forms other than financial
Most professionals can receive goods other than financial. These types of goods can be things such as free sports clothing, for example if Nike sponsored them they would give them brand new boots. Theses goods are for promoting the product or even testing them out to see the strong points/weaknesses.
What are they actually paid for
Professionals are paid for a whole range of roles. To entertain the spectators, participate and play to the best of their ability in the sports match/event given, have a good attitude at all times and they have to show their skills in that specific sport. Not to mention they also get paid form sponsorship.
Are there other ways to earn money as a professional other than playing
Yes, professionals can earn money in others ways instead of playing the sport; they do this because it sets a good example in the public eye and gives an idea on what professionals do in their space time. Often they get involved with a series of school programmes with the children, for example Wayne Rooney sets up an event called Street Striker this is letting people from council estates go through stages of a competition and get a price for the winner something like a scholarship.
Impact on the local community
Being a professional and playing in a local city will have extraordinary impact on the community. You have stadiums built for spectators to enjoy watching the sport, it gives the public a place to go and see it for real instead of on a screen at the pub. When theses professionals play in theses sports they have millions of children which look up to them as a role model, for example in Bath there is a football player called Scott Sinclair who plays at a professional level, therefore the local community children look up to him as somewhat a hero.
Chosen Sports man: Cristiano Ronaldo (Football player)
Describe the team they play for and try and discover how much money they make?
Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese footballer who plays as a winger or striker for Spanish club Real Madrid and is the captain of the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo became the most expensive player in football history after moving from Manchester United to Real Madrid in a transfer deal worth £80 million. In addition, his contract with Real Madrid, in which he was to be paid £11 million per year over the following six years, made him the highest-paid football player in the world at the time and his buyout clause was valued at €1 billion as per his contract
Do they have any sponsorship deals or any other ways in which they earn from their status as a professional?

Describe their career to date and state how and when they made the jump from being an amateur to a professional.
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the highest-paid football player in the world at the time!
At the age of eight, Ronaldo played for amateur team Andorinha, where his father was the kit man. In 1995, Ronaldo signed with local club Nacional, and, after a title-winning campaign, he went on a three-day trial with Sporting CP, who subsequently signed him for an undisclosed sum. Ronaldo joined Sporting CP’s other youth players who trained at the Academia Sporting, the club's football academy, in Alcochete. He became the only player ever to play for Sporting's under-16, under-17, under-18, B-team, and the first team, all within one season.

Sports Development
Sports Development is an initiative aimed at promoting the development of sport and recreational activities with specific emphasis on rural areas and links between schools, clubs and young people.
Scale and size
The scale and size of Sports of Development is tremendously big; worldwide. Here are some examples of the agencies.
Nationally – Global sports
Regionally/UK Sport –
Locally – BANES
If it wasn’t for sports development establishments young children cannot improve on their abilities.
Target
They target schools and communities for young people who are interested or would like to take part in sport.
Services offered and functions performed groups
They offer new facilities to schools and also the local community for example in schools they offer new facilities such as a court to play a variety of sports on, and in the local community they would offer a sports court for the children in the community to go and play which ever sports being football, basketball etc.
Impact on the local community?
If it wasn’t for the Sports Development the local children wouldn’t have anything to do with their spare time… hence the reason as they provided more facilities the crime rate has dramatically lowered! This proves it has a positive impact on the local community.
Example
Bredford Borough Council Leisure Facilities
What is the goal of the initiative?
A new local service that we will be developing into a “one stop shop” for information on sports coaching qualifications, sports leader’s awards, National governing body awards, referees and official courses, health improvement qualifications and much more! We are hoping to develop the site to include courses that are taking place at Bedford Borough Council Leisure facilities as well as schools, Higher Education establishments and other sites within the Borough of Bedford.
Who is it focused on?
They want to encourage as many people as possible to access the courses and gain qualifications in sport, leisure and health.
Where will it take place?
Borough of Bredford
How successful has it been?
The Bredford Borough Council Leisure has been very successful ranging from rowing, netball, football, cross-country, windsurfing, karate, to rugby. Overall, it’s a well known initiative and the results have a positive impact on the community.
Are there any plans to develop this initiative further?
The evening of the 14th December witnessed the biggest ever gathering of Bedford sports people from across the borough that has probably EVER taken place!
The annual Bedford Sports Awards took place in the Corn Exchange, and hosted over 350 guests. Organised by the Borough Council Sports Development Team; the event aims to recognise the many achievements and contributions that local people make to sport.
The future only holds the unknown for this initiative but I can guarantee it will be successful.
Health and Fitness
The definition of health related fitness is fitness done with balance among the development and improvement of the whole body. The definition can be better understood when elaborated. Health-related physical fitness includes two major parts; Activity and diet.
How much is the fitness industry worth? Can you use an example of a specific health and fitness chain?
Fitness is a $17.6 billion industry that has doubled in size in the last 10 years and also Health club memberships nationwide are 48% male and 52% female. For example in, there are 50 million health club members in Canada and the United States and North America is home to over 25,000 health clubs and the number grows each day. So if America has a reasonably big health and fitness industry, other nations also must have similar standards.
What services do the industry as a whole? Does your specific example offer anything different to other companies?
They offer services such as modern equipment, cheap memberships, and exclusive deals monthly and great socialising environment, also they offer chances to become part of a healthy and active lifestyle by running their own class’s etc. To be more specific, Culverhay Sports Centre which is managed by the company aqua terra offer a series of facilities and services to their customers, such as Sports hall, gym, swimming pool, outdoor court, lounge and washing facilities, not to mention they run their own sports sessions to improve your physique or your health, such as weight training and pool sessions.
Who do health and fitness clubs target in the UK?
They target specifically like to target people in the community who would like to change their lifestyle by either improving their physique, general fitness or if they want to just feel better about them self’s.
What impact do does the industry have on the local community?
The impact is great as it’s the only place where the local community can visit to improve their fitness abilities or just keep in shape. If it wasn’t for health and fitness clubs placed around the area obesity levels will raise and peoples health and fitness levels wouldn’t be as good.
Why is it important to maintain a good level of health of fitness? What dangers are associated with being unfit or over weight?
It is important to maintain a good level of health of fitness to keep your body in shape i.e. better physique, the main danger of being overweight and unfit is a high risk of a heart attack.
What demographic are the most fit and why is this the case? What demographics of society tend to be unfit?
Athletics is the most fittest sport because you need stamina and CV endurance for example long distance events, also not to mention they need a strict balanced diet to keep their body in shape and have the right amount of energy.
The people who in society tend to be unfit are people who are overweight, do not go to the gym, never walk no where always use some form of transport, and who don’t have the right mind-frame to do something involving exercise.
What life style factors have an influence on your fitness?
- Taking a walk to the shop rather than driving a car.
- Taking the stairs rather than the elevator.
- Going for an evening jog rather than sitting in front of the TV.
How does your diet have an impact on your fitness levels?
Eating healthy foods will make your body even fitter, where as eating junk food will clog up certain arteries and make you have no energy and become somewhat lazy.
Describe your health and fitness levels. What do you do each to avoid becoming unfit?
Monday – Gym and Basketball
Tuesday – Gym and Basketball
Wednesday – Swimming and Basketball
Thursday – Gym and Basketball
Friday – Gym and Basketball
By doing a range of different activates the sports I do throughout the week will avoid me becoming unfit, my food intake isn’t all that healthy for example I may have a McDonald's or sausage and chips, this doesn’t effect me how it would most people because I have a high metabolism, but I do eat grapes everyday and drink at least a pint of milk so that’s some healthy foods.
