Basketball - First Draft
This is the change I have made, taking out the Spectatorship part and carrying on with Participation saying..
It is estimated that there are around a quarter of a million people in England who regularly participate in basketball.
It is becoming increasingly common to find
basketball as a part of primary and secondary schools curriculum, therefore making
Basketball more easily accessible.
There are role models for the British youth e.g. Luol Deng - a British professional basketball player for the Nation Basketball Association’s
Chicago Bulls and the Great Britain Basketball Team. Instantly he is an idol and an inspiration to young people especially young basketball
players; this will encourage them to participate in the sport because they want to ‘be like him.
Try to focus your newspaper article a little more - you only need to cover 2 of the 3 areas of growth you currently have on there.
ReplyDeleteMedia Coverage:
- Can you produce any statistics (e.g. number of games shown/viewing figures) that would back this up?
Participation:
- Again, figures showing increasing participation would be good - SportEngland APS
- Good reference to increased lottery funding though this might come under provision (i.e. more money = more courts = more chance to play)
- Try to say why people would then want to go out and play on these courts e.g. clever marketing from the NBA as global leader (think the games at the O2 arena)? More schools introducing it as part of school curriculum? Better role models for British youth e.g. Luol Deng?
Spectatorship:
- I'd check those numbers - 32m people is half the country!
- Again, WHY might more people want to watch basketball? talking about the NBA (huge in the USA compared to BBall here) promoting with games at the O2 might be a starting point
